Say Yes to Jesus

Why I reject P.O.D.

(and similar bands)

1. They have more in common with the fruit of the sinful nature than the fruit of the Spirit (see Galatians 5:19-22).

2. Jesus said, “You will know them by their fruits” (Matthew 7:16).

3. Much of their music is harsh, loud, blaring, and full of discord, which again violates Galatians 5, as well as Philippians 4:8.

4. Their music sounds very similar to secular metal bands, and fans’ reactions to it is very similar to that of secular metal bands.

5. They sometimes tour with Satanic bands, such as Korn.  The Bible says, “Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?” 2 Corinthians 6:14

6. They openly admit their affinity and admiration for Bob Marley, and for Rastafarianism, even to the point of wearing Bob Marley t-shirts, and having a Rastafarian Jesus as part of the backdrop of their stage at one point.  There is nothing Christian about Rastafarianism, and Bob Marley became a symbol for the Rastafari movement, and he was internationally associated with Marijuana usage.

7. P.O.D. admits that they believe truth can be found in many different religions, and they dislike being labeled merely as a “Christian” band.

There are other reasons, but these are the main ones that come to mind.  We need to take a closer look at the things we allow to enter our minds.  Our young people need to be steered away from music that tends to demoralize their characters, and desensitize them to evil.  We also need to examine the belief system and lifestyle of an artist, before we grow attached to that artist.

The first few items above contain principles that could be applied to MANY bands, artists, etc.  These biblical principles are timeless, true, and they are meant to be applied to our lives.  Especially should parents guard what their children watch, read, and listen to.  God holds us parents accountable for not only our example, but our guidance as well.  Let's fill their young minds with the things of God while we can, and show them how to desire that which is pure, holy, and good.
